The Oyster & Fish House

Mark Hix, celebrated chef, restaurateur and food writer recently opened a new solo venture in Lyme Regis, serving the best of local produce and sustainable fish.

Having worked with Mark and his team for many years, and following the very sad closure of the HIX restaurants over the COVID-19 pandemic we just had to help Mark with this new project which is very close to his heart, and ours.

The Oyster and Fish House website

Launched within 4 weeks

One of the challenges was the deadline; the new site had to be live for opening and we had just four short weeks from start to launch.

To help with time constraints our approach was to build the entire site from one template using our WordPress Widget Framework. Our team created a large number of widgets, all designed in a way that they could be added to a page in any order providing full flexibility whilst also reducing development time.

A sea of simplicity

Although the site is fairly simple in terms of functionality, the design, movement and subtle animations help to elevate a brochureware website to something very special. We’ve incorporated elements such as the wave to tie in with the location of Lyme Regis and restaurant setting.

Big imagery

Imagery is everything when it comes to restaurant websites (and most websites saying that). The widgets we’ve created focus on the amazing photography shot by the very talented Matt Austin. Many of the panels fit to screen, filling your browser with amazing shots of the food, drink and location enticing you to come and dine!

We wish Mark and the team every success and we’re looking forward to a team trip down to Dorset very soon.

Feedback

We’re were really chuffed to receive Honors from awwwards.com for our work on the site and to get such great feedback from the team at The Oyster & Fish House too, thanks Jo and Mark!

“Mark and I have worked with The Hideout for many years and they have always been an agency we have recommended to others in the industry. From initial quotes, planning, project management, right through to completion, the process is always seamless. It’s well-organised and stress-free, which is definitely what you need when opening a new restaurant and working under tight deadlines!
We were over the moon with the initial design that was sent to us – we didn’t even need to make any changes to what they had proposed, it was spot on from the outset and we are so happy with the final result and received really good feedback from everyone that has used the website.”
