Rathfinny is a family-owned estate in Sussex, producing some of the world’s finest sparkling wines since opening in 2010. The team were looking for a creative new website to showcase their collection and tell their incredible story so far, and we couldn’t wait to get involved.

Simple doesn’t mean boring

Rathfinny are a key player in a busy industry, and as their website was often the first point of contact for customers, we knew it needed to help them stand out from the crowd. The Rathfinny brand is built on the idea of simplicity; clean lines, elegant typefaces and subtle accents of colour. However, simple doesn’t need to mean boring. The combination of large display typography and powerful imagery creates a clear and engaging user interface, whilst the subtle animations add a sense of elegance to the experience.

Mobile-first design

During our discovery phase, we noticed high levels of traffic from mobile users on the existing Rathfinny site. That’s why throughout the entire process, we worked with a mobile-first mentality, ensuring that the mobile experience is as impressive, easy to navigate and tells the same story as on larger screens. Full screen imagery, interactive menus and clever animations help create an undisturbed user journey that’s equally immersive.

An adaptable and future-proof build

The site was built on our WordPress Widget Framework, which provides huge flexibility and caters for Rathfinny’s ever-evolving, growth mindset. Supported by clear navigation and signposting, we were able to create very distinct areas of the site for all of their offerings, whilst keeping everything on-brand and easily accessible to the user. 2020 has certainly proved how important flexibility is; so when national lockdowns forced Rathfinny to close their doors, we were able to help them set up an online store and seamlessly integrate it with the main site. 

Right from the start we were impressed with The Hideout. I particularly liked the way that every member of the team knew not only their area of work, but also their colleagues’ areas, so everything was ‘joined up’. I also liked their realistic and practical approach, never over-promising but always delivering. I can’t recommend them highly enough and I think the new website speaks for itself.
